A Happy Home
"To live where God's law is the principal rule, and where you may be daily taught the mysteries of his kingdom, and have the Scriptures opened to you, and be led as by the hand in the paths of life; where the praises of God are daily celebrated, and his name is called upon, and where all do speak the heavenly language, and God, and Christ, and heaven are both their daily work and recreation; where it is the greatest honor to be most holy and heavenly, and the greatest contention is, who shall be most humble and godly, and obedient to God and their superiors; and where there is no reviling at godliness, nor any profane and scurrilous talk: what a sweet and happy life is this! Is it not likest to heaven of any thing on earth?" ~ Baxter
The quote above was taken from a very old book (published in 1882), called Home, or The Way to Make Home Happy. I was reading that book yesterday when I came across the words above. Isn't this what we are aiming for as Christian parents? And yet, how far from this heaven-like home we are!
As a mother, I am often tempted to feel that I am getting nowhere with my efforts to train my children. How many lessons need to be daily repeated, and sometimes the lesson is repeated many times in the same hour! After having been wakened many times in the night by one child or another, how many times patience is lost and such a feeling of weariness creeps in!
The book I read yesterday brought the goal before my eyes once more. How I long to have such a home where peace and love and godliness reign! It would be worth every sacrifice to have such a home. And truly, as mothers, we are called to present ourselves as a living sacrifice. Daily, we offer ourselves to the Lord to do His will in our homes as we serve our families. Keep on, sisters! If you are feeling weary today (as I am!), just remember that it is all worth it! My desire is to one day hear the Lord say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." ~Galatians 6:9

This is just the medicine I was needing today!!There are many days when weariness creeps in..especially when us Mama's are not feeling well...and recently..my patience has not been a very good example. I'm glad the Lord used you to share this often needed reminder! We are doing His work!
Thank you, this is just what I needed to hear today! I was just thinking "Oh, if I could only get one night without being awakened in the night". :) I know if I give my weariness to God he will give me what I need to make it through my day and even more. So thankful for all His good gifts. Thank you for the encouragement.
Dear Ellen & Debbie~
Thank you both so much for taking the time to leave such sweet comments!!
I am so thankful the Lord could use something written here to encourage you...you've encouraged me as well just by your comments!
Shortly after making this post I got mastitis again, and I've had another period of extreme fatigue and weariness. But the Lord has been kind and I'm gradually being restored back to health!
May the Lord strengthen all of us in the callings He's given. :)
Love,
Joy
Thank you for sharing this convicting quote, Joy, and your thoughts on it. Both were a great blessing to me! I was able to find the book available to read online, which I will be doing soon. It sounds like one that would be convicting and encouraging. I am looking forward to reading it!
Thanks for your comment, Sarah! How nice that you found the book online! I hope it's a blessing to you as it has been for me. :)
My children are grown now and mostly out on their own. I miss the days when they were all home. It's a good thing to remember to do all for God and to keep your attitude where it needs to be as a mother and a home maker. It is also important to remember that children can try our patience and it's a good thing that God is patient with us.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective as a mother of grown children, hip-chick! I always need to keep in mind that my children will one day be grown...and as others have said, I know I will miss these days!
Thankyou.
Blessings Gail
